Nicholas DunstanGaren, RP
Nick here. Behind every struggle is a story that deserves to be heard. In our work together, we’ll explore what lies beneath the surface and move toward something better.
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist based in Peterborough, where I live with my fiancé, our son, and two dogs—a doodle and a French bulldog. For more than six years, I’ve supported individuals through challenges such as relationship breakdowns, addiction, trauma, grief, and major life transitions. My experience spans both virtual and inpatient settings, giving me the perspective to meet people at different stages of their healing process.
I draw on evidence-based approaches including Mindfulness and Self-Compassion, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Each session is tailored to your needs rather than a single method.
One thing I’ve learned is that pain—whether rooted in trauma, loss, or addiction—rarely exists in isolation. It’s often connected to deeper, unspoken struggles. My role is to help you explore those layers with care and clarity. I also work with family members and loved ones who are impacted by someone else’s addiction or mental health journey.
This work continues to inspire me. The trust clients place in me is something I value deeply, and I’m committed to supporting real, lasting change.
When I’m not in session, you’ll often find me on the golf course, watching football, or learning the ropes of new fatherhood.
How it works.

While I no longer offer phone consultations due to high demand and ongoing referrals, many clients have found that reading about my approach, values, and areas of focus offers a clear sense of whether we might work well together. I encourage you to explore my website and reach out if my approach resonates with you.

Supportive relationships are invaluable, but opening up to those closest to us can sometimes feel complicated—especially when we fear being misunderstood or judged. Therapy offers a different kind of space: one that is confidential, non-judgmental, and entirely focused on you. My role is to listen deeply, reflect thoughtfully, and help you explore your inner world with greater clarity and compassion.

My approach is grounded, compassionate, and client-centered. I believe that meaningful change begins with self-understanding. Together, we will explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at a pace that feels safe. I will gently support and, when appropriate, challenge you to uncover insights that lead to lasting growth and deeper clarity.
